Back in December I heard a rumor, a whisper through the undercurrent of rock n’ rock… a rumor that Switchfoot was coming to town. Could the rock n’ roll faithful really believe? Or was such a story just a whispered falsehood? Could the faithful masses dare to dream again? A quick search in the tour section of Switchfoot’s website revealed the truth, somehow someone had convinced them to stop here while on the Canadian leg of their Oh! Gravity tour.
After approximately 6.3 seconds of prayful consideration (sometimes I’m a little slow at hearing from God) I decided to go.
Well sure enough, the weather tried to trip up Switchfoot with a late winter snow storm. But the pop rockers prevailed and made the trek without incident. Yahoo!
With the 80’s metal blaring, my good friend Ian & I made our own way to the show where we briefly hung out with or waved greetings to a few friends. Because all good shows happen right at the front, Ian & I waited… front & center, for everything to begin. Finally at 8pm the opening band, Copeland, a band whose recordings sound a little more mellow than I prefer, started things off. I was impressed with the 45 minute set which revolved around Aaron’s enigmatic/charismatic personality.

When Copeland finished we waited…almost 40 minutes before Switchfoot took the stage. You know, there is a price to pay for wanting to be up close…by the time Jon & the gang took the stage we were getting really squished since it seemed that everyone at the venue wanted to get as close as possible. But the wait was well worth it. Wow! What a show! Switchfoot really knows how to entertain and involve an audience (even a quiet one like ours). I was amazed at the musicianship, variety, tightness and stage presence of the band. It was a great and satisfying show that was made even better when the band came out to hang out with the 100 or so fans that waited to see them. They were friendly and gracious. What a treat.
