And that’s what it’s all about.

May 29, 2007

It’s times like these that remind you about what’s really important in life.
You remember that life is not about the daily grind or your weekly meeting.
It’s not about your job or your hobbies or your play times.
It’s not your car or yard or house and it’s definitely not your “stuff”.
It’s not even about your ambitions or goals or dreams.
It’s about family and how you interact with them and how you relate and communicate with them and how they do the same with you and how all of that relates to God & eternity.

Usually you just go about life as usual, but then something happens that causes you to remember what is really important.
Now is one of those times.
One of those reminders of what you value… what you really value.

It is almost time to say goodbye to Grandma Melnychuk… days, hours, maybe only minutes.
And with that goodbye comes sorrow, grief, and tears.
And hope and togetherness.
Some rough days and some great times of reminiscing.
About family.
And you remember what it’s all about.

Grandma Melnychuk, you will never see, read, or hear this post, but that’s okay because you already know…we love you.

Update: Grandma Melnychuk passed away in the early morning hours of Wednesday May 30th, 2007. Only a few short hours after I originally posted this note.

Back in the saddle again

May 19, 2007

Now that the weather is nice and the days are long, I’ve finally had the chance to hang out with my old gang. We’ve been doing all the regular stuff bikers do…you know, stuff like showing each other our scars and telling the stories that go with them, drinking beer (root), making trouble in the neighbourhood (by blocking the sidewalk), yelling (to be heard over the wind) and fighting (to make it up the big hill without walking), staying out so late that you get in trouble with the law (mom), wearing your colours (varies from day to day depending on the weather), and when we have time, jumping on our rigs for a cruise. And soon (well actually it might be a few years yet) we can hit the trails. Sweet.
Life is good, here’s proof…

The most important day ever

May 9, 2007

Did you know that today is the most important day ever? I don’t mean today in the motivational speaker “hey, get off your butt and do something with your life” way. No, I actually mean today, May 9th. Why? Well for me it’s because on this day, May 9th, 197X (sorry I can’t reveal the year) Angela was born. Yep, today is Angela’s birthday. And for me, that is important. Very important. Almost as important as another date that is fast approaching. It is so important to me that it could be the most important day ever. So if Angela is important to you then take a minute and let her know.
Happy Birthday Ang.
I love you.
