The 2007 biking windup

January 31, 2008

Yep, I know it’s three months late but this is the best I could do since I needed time to put all the photos and videos together. I want to warn you that the video is over seven minutes long… this is the very edited version as I was close to eleven minutes originally.

All in all, this year was a fabulous year for riding.

Little Artists

Here is one of Aden’s latest school art class projects…. his interpretation of Van Gogh’s “Starry Night“.

And here is a recent work by Cadel titled “Skiing fun”, a picture of his Auntie Nicole skiing fast down the hill while Cadel waits at the bottom and laughs at Auntie Nicole’s funny wind-blown hair.

Disappearing Act

January 14, 2008

We know it’s been coming for a while now. We’ve talked about it. Speculated about when it would happen. Wished that it wouldn’t happen, but we know it is inevitable. As sure as snow in winter, we know that eventually what we love so much will stop.

For the past year whenever Aisha asked for a drink of water she would say, “wa,wa,wa,wa,wa,wa,waaatterrrr”. And we love it. It is so cute, and totally unique to her. Ever since she has learned to speak she has asked for water this way. Unfortunately it’s almost gone. As Aisha’s ability to speak improves, her cute mis-saying has been disappearing. It shows up now and then, but it used to happen everytime. Now it’s a rare occasion. Soon, it will only be a memory. And Ang & I will miss it. So for now, everytime we hear “wa,wa,wa,wa,waaterrrrr” we revel in it, and know that this time, it might be the last time.

hiking windup (sorry I’m late)

January 7, 2008

So I’ve been really late with posting stuff in our life but that’s because real life has been busy. And the busier real life is the less time there is to post.

With that in mind, this past Thanksgiving holiday (yes, I am that far behind) I had the opportunity to take my children on our last hike of the season. We motored up the hill from Trail to Rossland and then zipped through town to the trailhead up to the peak of Kootenay/Columbia mountain – a hike that ends in a spectacular viewpoint.

It is such a treat to have such quick access to terrific trails, peaks, and other outdoor fun. Wow!

There’s no fun like snow fun

January 3, 2008

Yahoo! it’s snowing again.

This past week we were blessed to have visitors, The Evil Durik and Lady Nicole. It was a great week filled with food, fellowship, games, fun and general mayhem… and something that Derek really wanted to do – go skiing (snowboarding for me). So last Saturday (Dec 29th) Durik & I were off to Red Mountain for a day in powder (Red had just received 24 cm of snow the day before). What fun! There was an abundance of terrain and snow and even with the slightly longish lift lines there was no one to be found on the runs we were on. Following a day of rest and New Year’s Eve we were back at Red on New Year’s Day for more adventures, this time with an old friend of ours, Jared, and a new one of mine, Duane. (mental note: New Year’s Day is a great day to go riding, it is almost like having the hill to your self.) Again we managed to find good snow, although we did have to work harder to find it.
The following day Durik was off to Whitewater with Jared. Nicole, Angela, and the kids were off to Nelson for a fun day, and I worked.
And that brings us to today. Today we sent Derek & Nicole on their way so they can be back in S’toon for friday evening. Boo hoo. It was nice to have you visit. The snow will be even better at the end of March if you want to get a few more runs in, who knows, maybe Simon & Laura want to go skiing too (wink, nudge).

Thanks for the visit. See you soon.
