Visitors from “out there”

March 28, 2008

Begin transmission…

It was almost a scene out of “The Twilight Zone”, or some 50’s sci-fi movie. There we were lying in bed Monday morning when suddenly we heard strange noises coming up the stairs. It was too late to lock the door (they were already inside), we had no place to run and hide (they were headed right for us), I wasn’t awake enough to grab some sort of weapon, and, since they haven’t been invented yet, we didn’t even have a force field (except morning breath) to ward them off. So we were forced to endure the punishment that these intruders afflicted upon us. It was hidous… I would go into the gory details but fortunately we’ve managed to block out of our memory the worse parts of it. Besides, I’m sure that they are monitoring any and all communications that we send out. So if we share the details they may (in all likelihood) return to inflict more punishment (preferably during the summer months). All we can say is that we’re glad (sad actually) it’s over (until next time).

…end transmission.

If your job was a music album, what sound would it be?

March 20, 2008

So I was sitting at work today, daydreaming, when a thought crossed my mind… if my job was a music album, what sound would it be?

Some people have jobs where silence reigns supreme, that would be one of those nature CD’s where all you hear is leaves rustling, insects buzzing, and birds chirping.
Others have moments of quiet accented with pleasant interludes of human interaction… comtemporary pop.
Someone working in an office enviroment…jazz (slightly disident but it always resolves).
Retail…pop (predictable & disposable).
Telemarketer… gangsta rap (yep, you just want it turned off).
City worker…reggae.

My job… a mix between heavy metal (I work in a lead refinery…) and industrial (…with machinery…) with screaming vocals (…’cause thats the only way to hear each other).

What about you?

the new job

March 14, 2008

Well, let me introduce you to my new job.

Way back in late January I received a call from Teck Cominco regarding possible employment, and after, a few tests, an interview, a medical, and a few other hoops (and a few weeks worth of waiting) I got a job as an operator in the lead refinery. Yahoo! The work is physical & repetitious, the days are long (12 hr shifts, 4 on 4 off) and the pay is good.

You can check the company at Teck Cominco. Teck Cominco is a huge mining company with locations all over the world… I work here.

It makes snow sense

So, one of the best things about being out here in the Kootenay’s is winter. Sure, there’s lots of snow, and being at the valley bottom means a lack of sunshine (boohoo, we miss sunshine), but winter here is fabulous. Due to the mild weather, we can play outside any time we want. This year I’ve been able to go snowboarding a few times, we’ve gone sledding a couple of times and the boys and I have been out snowshoeing too. I highly recommend snowshoeing. It is a relatively cheap activity and great exercise. It’s like hiking but not on a path so you can just go anywhere. The guys have been sledding on the snow hill in our yard (see above picture) since we had a lot of snow and I had to put it somewhere. And they even took their bikes and skateboards out for a rip recently. With the weather being so mild around here, getting out in the snow to play just makes sense.

Hockey brawler or 7 year old?

March 3, 2008

So, as you can see from this photo, Aden is missing a few teeth, I think the current total is four empty spaces. He’s very non-chalant about losing teeth, the last two fell out while he was eating and he almost swallowed them! None of this whining, tie a string around the tooth and to a door and then slam the door business, just “oops, here mom, my tooth fell out”.
Anyway, it certainly makes photos interesting.
