something we found this summer… any guesses?

November 12, 2008So, back in August we got a GPS unit because I thought it would be fun to play with… good for going on hikes, good for biking, and good for an online & outdoor activity called geocaching.
Geocaching (pronounced geo-cashing) is a worldwide game of hiding and seeking treasure. A geocacher can place a geocache in the world, pinpoint its location using GPS technology and then share the geocache’s existence and location online. Anyone with a GPS unit can then try to locate the geocache.
We first tried geocaching while on holidays in Saskatoon, we went out with my parents around Martenville trying to find a few caches in town. We ended up walking all over town and having a good time hunting for “treasure”. Well, after that we tried to find more…and more…and more…until finally we’re cachers, finding caches and now hiding them.
It’s lots of good family fun, driving all over the place, running around, poking under things, climbing on trees, etc. So if you are looking to do something with the whole family (no matter what age) or just looking to get outside, I highly recommend geocaching.
