A most important day

February 28, 2009

Well, I’d like to say I remember it like yesterday but really I don’t. Not even a little bit. I wasn’t even around for this very important day. You could say it’s up there with only one other day as the most important day in my life. And I wasn’t even there. But if it wasn’t for this day I wouldn’t be here.
So what’s so important about today? It’s my dad’s birthday, his 60th birthday. 60 years ago today a new life was added to this earth. The 8th of 9 children, my dad is special. No, not “special”. He’s special in a caring, tender-hearted, self-less way. I think that is a quality that is rare in most people, but not my dad, he’s got lots of it. Some people would say he got too much, but I don’t think so… I think he got the right amount to do everything placed in his heart to do.
He’s perfectly equipped to do what’s been placed inside him to do.

Dad, we love you. Have a great birthday.

where’s the fire?

February 23, 2009

The kids and I were out and about Saturday grabbing a few geocaches and visiting with some geocaching friends before I went to work (nights), Rod is the fire chief out at Genelle and he kindly let the kids check out the fire truck at the Genelle fire hall. Thanks Rod & Heidi for the visit and the pictures.

A Canuck Kiwi

A few weeks ago I was hunting online for some geocaching ideas when I stumbled across a geocaching webstore based out of Auckland, New Zealand, that was giving away a few “geocoins” (quick definition: A coin/token with a unique number that is trackable online. The general purpose of a geocoin is to travel from one cache to another, although a coin’s owner may assign it a specific mission. A geocoin becomes a hitchhiker that is carried from cache to cache (or person to person) in the real world and you can follow its progress online.). The only catch to the contest was that they were only giving away a few coins, and that instead of sending to the chosen receipients by mail, they were going to “release them into the wild” and allow them to travel from cache to cache until they finally meet their owner. So, I figured I’d at least throw our name in the hat in hopes of being awarded one of the few prized coins. I fired of an email and attached a couple of photos of my caching buddies (the kids). And then went back to everyday life, not really expecting to be picked. Then last week (Friday I think) we received an email from Kathy & Andy (who cache under the moniker “WackyB”) the owners of the Geocaching-Zone store informing us that we had been chosen to receive one of their coveted coins. We were very pleasantly surprised and pleased to have been selected.
Thank you Kathy & Andy.

So now there’s a geocoin out there wandering around the other side of the world and it belongs to us (wow!). It’s going to be fun tracking it’s travels all the way from New Zealand to us here in Canada. Who knows, it may even meet up with the other travel bugs that we have out there, Aden’s Glider the flaming car, Cadel’s Safari, or my 4-Runner.

Happy 8th Birthday Aden! We had a great time. We celebrated by watching the redneck bobsledding at the Rossland Winter Carnival, then it was back home to party with friends and family, and finally we topped it all off with a Smokies hockey game. It’s hard to believe 8 years have come and gone so quickly, yikes!
