Better late than never

April 24, 2009

As usual, I’m behind in updating things about life, but that’s okay because I’d rather live life than talk about it…so in catching up…

Happy Birthday Cadel!
The 5yr old is now a 6yr old who thinks he’s a 7yr old. We had great fun with family and friends going bowling, hiking, and caching.

What a season it has been for playing in the snow. Too much fun. The boys and I did lots of snowshoeing (and we may yet wander up to Kootenay Pass for one more hike). And we had a lot of fun skiing & snowboarding too.

We like winter, especially here in the Kootenays.

!TGFS!

April 9, 2009

It was planned for and anticipated for quite some time. Several months in fact. It began to take root in January when word of a visitor arrived. From that moment forward there was motion. First just a bit of talk, “will it work for…?”, “where do you think we should…?”. Then decisions were made and plans were finalized. Anxiously we waited for the moment to arrive. And before long the countdown got down to 3, 2, 1. Finally Friday came and all our plans became reality. We were off! After a few hours of journeying we were able to do what you just can’t do in the Kootenays. Or at least do well. We spent 3 days thoroughly enjoying it, revelling in it in fact. We tried unsuccessfully to get our fill of it, but at least we were able to enjoy it while it lasted. But finally we had to return home, returning to our everyday life, hopefully richer for the experience. And what would that experience be? What cannot be found in the Kootenays that exists elsewhere? Well, it’s something that is almost unbearable for some people, tolerated by others, enjoyed by most and obsessed over by some. It is something that those with access to it take for granted.

It is…shopping.

Last week we had the chance to take off to beautiful Kelowna for our annual shopping trip with our friends and fellow shoppers, the Smith’s, for a few days of hanging out and shopping and enjoying good food all while being kid-less (Yeah!). It was busy but relaxing and fun. And over too soon (one more day), but thoroughly enjoyed.

Until next year.
